Katowice Street Art Festival 2014.

The heroine of the mural is Halinka, who is fed up with the greyness and dirt filling the streets of her neighbourhood, once heavily industrialised, and begins to change this reality on her own by planting flowers and trees around her.

The girl knows that urban green space management is strictly regulated by the authorities. However, she does not give up and fulfils her dreams under the cover of night, hooded and hiding her face under a scarf from prying surveillance cameras.

The mural is divided into two parts. One of them is a gray-black industrial landscape featuring a view of the Uthemanna Steelworks – one of the symbols of old Szopienice. The second is the City of Gardens, created thanks to Halinka's illegal yet noble activities. Colourful flowers and trees are inspired by the works of Halina Lerman, in which they often played a leading role.

The authors of the mural hope that the young generation living in Katowice today will embrace the ideas that inspire groups around the world, who at their own expense are transforming the appearance of their cities ravaged by constant renovations and pollution.
