Kościuszki 65
Małgorzata Rozenau
2024
In the tranquillity of a modernist villa, behind Lipowa Avenue, "Baba Lipa" has taken residence—a mural by Małgosia Rozenau, an artist known for her organic symbolism and feminine sensitivity in her work.
The work was created in a special place – in the immediate vicinity of Lipowa Alley leading to Kościuszko Park, one of the longest urban promenades in Katowice. It is indeed the linden tree, its leaves and bracts, that permeate from the real landscape onto the building's wall, creating a symbolic tribute to a tree considered one of the most magical and feminine in our culture.
Linden – the tree of power – for centuries associated with the feminine element, the guardian of families, the embodiment of Mother Earth. Honey-producing, fragrant, protective. In folk culture, it is the tree under which people rested, prayed, and sought solace. In Rozenau's mural, the linden tree takes on the form of "Baby" – a female guardian of the place, a quiet heroine of nature and stories about closeness to the environment.
"Baba Lipa" is not just art on a wall – it is presence, rooting, and a symbolic embodiment of female strength in the urban landscape.
As the artist herself writes:
"Linden, with its rich significance in culture and beliefs, is totally enchanting and without a doubt belongs in the register of power trees."
