Katowicka 39a
Patryk Hardziej
2021
On the wall of the tenement house at 39a Katowicka Street, a mural was created as part of a nationwide campaign promoting Poland's participation in the World Expo 2020 Dubai. The Katowice project was one of three such works in the country and was part of the visual promotion of the Polish pavilion on the international stage.
The author of the mural is Patryk Hardziej – an illustrator, designer, and academic lecturer, known for his vivid, synthetic graphic language. The composition refers to the main slogan of Poland's participation in the Expo: "Poland. Creativity Inspired by Nature" and the idea of combining tradition with modernity. In the visual layer, organic motifs and rhythmic lines are visible, referencing both natural structures and the architecture of the Polish Pavilion in Dubai.
The implementation has not only a promotional dimension but also an ecological one – anti-smog paints were used for its execution. Thanks to photocatalytic technology, the wall supports the process of reducing selected air pollutants, placing the mural within the narrative of sustainable development and environmental responsibility.
The creation of the work in Katowice highlighted the city's role as a modern center of culture and creativity, actively participating in international promotional projects. The mural at 39a Katowicka Street has become an example of how street art can combine aesthetic and communicative functions—serving simultaneously as a carrier of ideas, technology, and the country's image in the world.
