Gliwicka 229
2026
The mural commemorating Adam Ledwoń, a graduate and one of the most tenacious players of GKS Katowice, is located on the wall of a tenement at 229 Gliwicka Street. It was unveiled on June 11, 2026, on the 18th anniversary of the player's tragic death.
Adam Ledwoń represented GKS during the club's most successful period. With the Katowice team, he twice won the title of Polish vice-champion, claimed the Polish Cup, and competed in European competitions. He was valued for his tenacity, commitment, and playing until the final whistle. He played 18 matches for the Polish national team and scored one goal. In his career, he also played for German and Austrian clubs, including Bayer Leverkusen, Fortuna Köln, Austria Vienna, and Sturm Graz.
The mural project was financed and executed by the GKS Katowice Fans Association SK1964. During its creation, modern technological solutions were used. The contours of the image were applied to the facade using a lift, and the author of the work used virtual reality goggles, allowing for real-time projection of the full design onto the building's wall.
Adam Ledwoń's mural is the third mural in Katowice dedicated to an outstanding figure in the world of sports, following the works commemorating Jan Furtok and Jerzy Kukuczka. The implementation fits into the initiative of creating a trail of sports murals in Katowice, commemorating the athletes and people associated with the rich, multi-sectional history of GKS Katowice.
