3 Maja 38
Raspazjan
2015
The mural "Three Heads" is located in the courtyard of a tenement house at 3 Maja 38 Street in Katowice. It was created in 2015, and its author is Raspazjan – one of the most recognisable Silesian street art creators.
The central element of the surrealist composition is a monumental tree, from whose trunk and branches extraordinary, fairy-tale faces with human and animal features emerge. One of the popular interpretations reads it as a symbol of Silesian cities growing from a common root. However, the artist leaves the meaning of the work open, encouraging the audience to make their own associations.
The mural combines painterly expression with fantastic, geometric motifs and references to Silesian demonism. Hidden within the courtyard, away from the bustling promenade, it creates an intimate space.
Raspazjan himself admits that he does not impose a single interpretation of the mural, and his works leave room for imagination and subjective readings - "The only thing I can say is that it concerns Silesian cities that somehow grow from the same trunk." Or maybe that's not the point at all?
